Read with your child

The ”Read with your child”-brochure is translated into eight languages. This page contains the English text. You may download the brochure in other languages by clicking the link in the right-hand menu.

If parents tell their child stories and fairy tales from an early age, the child will be well on the way to mastering language. Reading aloud to your child is a good way to stimulate language and imagination.

You can help your child develop language skills by listening to, and talking with, your child. Everything you do together helps your child master language. Read, tell stories, sing, explain, and play with your child! Start early in your child's life. The foundations for solid language skills are laid in the early stages of childhood development.

Talk with your child – in your own language. Mastery of the mother tongue lays the foundation for learning other languages.

Through words we learn to explain.
And the words help us
live together.
