Recognition of foreign qualifications

How to get an assessment of your qualifications through the Danish Agency for International Education (previously CIRIUS)

There are several ways of having your foreign qualifications assessed and recognised in Denmark. Which procedure is appropriate depends on how you plan to use your qualifications:

• Application for assessment
  Standard application form. Not to be used for authorisation applications – see Regulated professions.

• Continuing your education. The assessment shows whether your qualification has the overall level required.

• Seeking employment. An assessment makes your qualifications easier to understand for an employer.

• Seeking admission to an unemployment fund. If a certain level of education is required, the assessment shows whether you have got it.

• Being pay graded as a graduate in the Danish public sector. To be submitted by the employer.

• Application for recognition of teaching qualifications
  If you are applying for recognition as a teacher of the Danish Folkeskole, general upper secondary school or hhx/htx.

• Clarify your opportunities: The assessment makes it easier to examine education and job opportunities. It may also facilitate a competence assessment.

How to obtain an assessment by CIRIUS:

How to get an assessment

1. You send the application form and documentation to the Danish Agency for International Education.
2. The Danish Agency for International Education examines the documentation. You may be asked to provide further documentation.
3. The Danish Agency for International Education makes an assessment of your qualification. This normally takes 1-2 months from the time you send the application and the required documentation.
4. You receive an assessment letter. If you want careers and educational guidance, you can take the assessment with you to the nearest guidance centre (Studievalg) or job centre.

If documentation cannot be provided
If you are unable to provide sufficient documentation for an assessment to be made, you may instead apply for a background report.

How much does the assessment cost?

An assessment is free of charge. Please note that the Danish Agency for International Education services do not include any translations

How long does the assessment take?

Case processing time is normally between one and two months. This time is counted from the time the Danish Agency for International Education has received all necessary information and documents.
