You must take your health insurance card with you when you visit the dentist, hospital emergency or in the event of hospitalisation. You must also have it with you when you travel outside Denmark. The health insurance card provides cover if you fall ill or have an accident while travelling in Europe as long as the trip is for pleasure and you are away for less than a month.
Things you have to pay for
You have to pay towards the cost of medicine, dental care and physiotherapy, for example. But you may also be eligible for a subsidy.
