Who is covered by the public travel health insurance?
The public travel health insurance covers persons who have a yellow public health insurance card, and persons not residing in Denmark, but who, according to agreements with other states - or according to the European Court of Justice - enjoy Danish social security rights, and who have therefore had a special health insurance card issued to them.
Where does the public travel health insurance provide coverage?
The Danish public travel health insurance covers travels outside Denmark in: Andorra, Austria, the Azores, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Canary Islands, the Channel Islands, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, the Faroe Islands, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Holland (the Netherlands), Hungary, the Isle of Man, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the Vatican state.

What types of trips are covered?
Only vacation and study trips, without any ulterior purposes, are covered. Trips combining, for instance, professional and vacation purposes are not covered - not even the vacational part of the trip. As a rule of thumb, study trips for school classes or amateur sports teams etc. are covered by the public travel health insurance. Study trips where the student is enrolled in a foreign educational institution are not covered. Trips that have a professional element, whether or not these are purely professional or combined with a vacation element, are not covered. Trainee work and trips undertaken in connection with job applications or job-seeking are not covered either.
For how long am I covered by the travel health insurance?
The public travel health insurance covers costs related to acute illness, injury, and death arising during the first month of travel abroad. What this means is that if you, for instance, start your trip on the 27th of a month, you will be covered up until and including the 26th of the following month.
